what do you need the heatsink for?
Good luck.. I have not found a suitable "free" thermal simulation program that was easy to use yet powerful enough..
Depending on the heatsink/application you may just need a little basic math

Good calculator. I like it, but ... too many unknown factors.
Why the precise calculations for something off the shelf that only comes in specific sizes? Trial and error would seem to work. Grab a heat sink. See if it works. Are you limited to a specific board space?
When considering a heat sink for a desk LED light the process is simpler.
Do I need a heat sink? If yes ...
What do I have available?
Do I have space restrictions?
Try one. If it still gets warm put a fan on it.
Calculations? No, estimations and experience.
