6-12v input and 220vac output..max power 500w. That is the spec from a very early post. Now consider that the efficiency will be less than 100%, but to make the calculations easy I will first assume 100% efficiency.
For power out=500watts, current out =500W/220 volts=2.27 amps. For power in, at 12 volts in, current in =500Watts/12 volts=41.66 amps, and at 6 volts in, 500watts/6 volts=83.33 amps. That would not work well with a cigarette lighter connection. The actual current will be more because the efficiency is probably not as good as 90%, so say input currents of 45 and 90 amps..

I do have an 800 watt inverter made by the "Peak-Intertek" company, and their website says they will sell to anybody. They will not be as cheap as E-Bay, but the products do work. So that may be an option.

Apparently someone decided, Jules, the TS, was so fragile that he needed to be protected from your picking.
Different thread, but will point out 2 things -
1. was only pointing to real world fact, not picking on anyone
2. the thread died when I stopped posting

The one problem was all of the comments by mister shortbus. The others tried to stay on topic.
And I do have one of those very compact inverters but have not had a chance to use it yet. It is only rated 90 watts max, which is about the most one could expect from a lighter socket in a vehicle. I have not investigated what the output actually looks like yet.

Then why aren't you still posting in it? My comments where meant to say that he wasn't gaining anything, he or no one else took into count the friction and other things robbing the beam. And he did at first say he wanted to "harvest energy" form it, but discounted the energy he put in to keep it moving. There is no free lunch in this stuff, common sense should be at the top of discussions of stuff like that. Not some pie in the sky hopes.
