I've just bought a Gameduino 3 and I have an arduino ethernet but there is the ethernet port and something along the center that stops the pins going into the headers.

Do I need another type of arduino or can those parts be removed?

From browsing the official arduino website the thing in the middle is probably a power over ethernet module (PoE) which is used to power the board from the Ethernet cable. you can probably remove it if you are not going to power the board from the Ethernet cable but the easies way would be like MrChips suggested, just get some of these:

And put them between the shield and the arduino.

 

Of course longer pins, should of thought of that.
