for power supply protection at the input i m thinking of using fuses instead of other software protection. Most of the fast acting fuses have an Interrupting rating around 100A. the problem during short circuit the current goes high in short time. to blow fuse element, an amount of energy is requiered Irms²t.
but in most cases when short circuit occurs, this amount of energy is reached at a current above the IR.
in this case do you think that the fuse body will completly blow ?
