For testing purposes, can I use XL6009E1 module to test this radio?

Hello,

I am in the process of fixing a radio, still don't know what's wrong with it (I have a post here about it) but that's another topic..
There are problems with the DC/DC converter built in the radio as it's consuming too much current resulting in a voltage drop from 3 volts (input) to 1.5 volts (output) I have no idea how to test the rest of the radio though. All capacitors (smd) have been replaced and I wanna make sure its working.
In order to isolate the problem, I'd like to use this DC/DC converter (XL6009E1):

to (temporarily) replace the DC/DC converter (3V to 14V) on the radio:

Magnified:

Is it possible and safe for the components? If so, where to attach the inputs' and outputs' -ve & +ve? Also, any components that need to be removed before attaching? (for example, removing the inductor chip on the right (221k) will separate the input to the DC/DC converter)
(P.S I am an amateur!)
