USB failures while testing

I am facing the USB failures when testing serial communication for example while testing RS485 using USB to RS485 converter. I had similar failure while testing with CAN tool. All the USB ports (3) are not detected, the replacement of USB ports is very expensive. What can i do to avoid a similar failure in the future? Request to please suggest me the best practices while testing.

Vihaan, the 'USB-USB' link is broken. Is it similar to this one?

USB port failure is often because the device you are connecting to has a different ground potential than the PC. This is not uncommon in some industrial environments. The only solution to that is an opto-isolated USB adapter like I believe you've linked to, or an isolated hub. Just plug the cable into your PC or hub, and plug the cable to your device under test into the isolator.

The link you have shared has below IC

  • ADUM3165 Chip:Supports Auto-negotiates USB interface speed, adapting and switching according to the speed provided by the host computer. Isolation levels up to 3.75kV RMS. Redriving and high speed data retiming for input jitter removal and an open eye

I hope both are same.
