Hi Ron:

The FCC doesn't specify modulation methods for Part 15 transmmitters, but it DOES specify peak power emission, and if A.M. modulation causes the transmitter to exceed this, then it could be in violation, if your carrier is pushing the 1mW limit.

Also, keep in mind that the upper end of the F.M. broadcast band is into the aviation band, where A.M. is still widely used and potential for interference is real.

They allow 200kHz deviation. The emission limit is 250uV@3 meters.

How much Frequency Deviation would I get with this circuit?
I would guess--"Not a hell of a lot!"

This thing is really a pretty grotty little device.
As Eric said,it will produce about as much AM as FM.

It is never going to be anything but a "fun" device to build once,listen to it once & chuck it back in the parts bin.

Self excited oscillators at around 100MHz are horrible,drifty things,even if built with the utmost care.
If,as is usually the case with newbies,you are going to build it on a breadboard,it probably won't work at all.
