Hello!

I am coming out of college and am about to purchase my first oscilloscope! I am currently torn between the features of the Rigol MSO5074, and the Keysight DSOX1204G. I was initially leaning towards the Rigol, however after doing some research, I've found a lot of people having issues with it's speed, and software bugs, and so I am now leaning towards the Keysight DSOX1204G. I am not too concerned about bandwidth at the moment, since it can be unlocked later, in software, and so I want to know your opinions on each of these scopes, and let me know if the Rigol isn't as bad as everyone says it is.

Thanks!

First up, I have no connection with any scope company.

IMHO,

Rigol are built down to a price, whilst keysight are the old HP, and are built to last.

I have seen some scopes I have taken apart, using say a 250 MHz ADC, over clocked to 400 MHz, so it worked just at room temperature, but not in the home office when it got hot.

Other scopes always have interpolation turned on, so sample at 250 MHz, but say 500 MHz,

another company I can attest to is ,
if you have a laptop , very useful integration , and does what it says on tin

Im also interested in the siglent parts, but Im in the UK, which tey insist is still part of the EU and are rediculaus cost add so not cost effective.

Pretty sure he's looking at mixed signal oscilloscopes, not entry-level DSO's.
Well the Keysight DSOX1204G is an entry level DSO, that's how their site introduces the 1000 series.

You're right about the prices, the UK price for Siglent SDS1204X-E is around 973 US dollars, whereas here in US its around 760 USD, that's a hike of 28% over the basic US price !

In this price class of 4ch MSO the current marketplace leader is SDS2104X Plus, hackable to 500 MHz and a current promotional offer adds a bunch of free options:

I hadn’t considered the Sigilent SDS2104X Plus! It looks like an incredible value! What I don’t like about the Rigol MSO5074 is that it gives a gamer type of vibe, with the sharp corners and color scheme, but I do like the way that the Sigilent looks, as well as all of its capabilities!

This video is a few months old and as such there have been firmware improvements to the Siglent however it's relevant to this thread as it's a comparison with the Rigol 5074.

Here's a very detailed 100+ page review of the 100 MHz version, the SDS1104X-E, I have the SDS1204X-E and found the review impressive.
