I have been reading about Electromagnetic Ground Conductivity Meters for Archaeology. Is building one within the scope of a DIY project or are they too specialist. I cannot even find any block diagrams or schematics for them.

It probably depends on your level of expertise in electronics. Are you a design engineer or hobbyist with a lot of experience designing and building electronic instruments? If so, one of these gadgets might be a possible DIY project. Otherwise, I'd say no.

Then I would say, as it is with all such things, "Google is your friend."

However, from the information I can glean online (or rather, the scarcity of information) it would appear that designing a homebrew electromagnetic GCM would be a major undertaking involving a LOT of research and experimentation. Definitely not for the impatient or the faint-hearted.

Yes I accept 'Google is my friend', but not on this occasion. I just cannot find any info on them, not even a block diagram. Someone must know something, after all they are commercially available.
