Yeah that is the point. They need to come from China or even Mouser. I want a place I can just drive a few miles and then be able to look over what is there.hi spin,
I get lots of 'big boys toys' from Shenzhen, takes 3 to 4 weeks for delivery.
Prices are low, so far the quality has been acceptable.

Definitely not Shenzhen, but this is the best we can do in my area.

Wow is this place cool. I wish we had something 1/100th as big here.
Picture me as the drooling dog when Pavlov rings his bell.Definitely not Shenzhen, but this is the best we can do in my area.
Just curious... Where are you?Definitely not Shenzhen, but this is the best we can do in my area.
We only have two stores here where you can buy EE stuff and both are pretty small. One is kept very neat but you can only see so much of their merchandise in the store itself and over 80-90% is kept in the back so you don't really browse the store itself, you check their inventory online beforehand.Definitely not Shenzhen, but this is the best we can do in my area.
Remember TechAmerica when it was first opened? I used to go there (and quite a drive from Colorado Springs) just to drool over their tech books section (and bought more than a few of them!).Just curious... Where are you?
There is not a single surplus/walk-in electronics store remaining here in Denver area.
Did Micro Center go under? Not surplus, but at least had a lot of close-to-hobbyist electronics stuff.Just curious... Where are you?

Nope, they are around and well as far as I can tell. They actually are doing a decent job of having a useful electronics section - much better than RS was, in my opinion.Did Micro Center go under? Not surplus, but at least had a lot of close-to-hobbyist electronics stuff.
In order to avoid being accused of posting spam, I will simply state that there are seven such branch stores across Ontario, Canada. These are not "surplus" stores though some of their stock would definitely be considered surplus or end-of-line. For example, they sell some RS proto boards and resistor kits. They stock rPi, Arduino, 3D printer filaments, quad-copters, test equipment, etc.
It was new to all of us.I used to like the Byte Shop in the early 80s....it was all so new (to me)
I have a flashback every time I pass the old TechAmerica site. I really miss the books section as well.Remember TechAmerica when it was first opened? I used to go there (and quite a drive from Colorado Springs) just to drool over their tech books section (and bought more than a few of them!).
I forgot that MicroCenter has some parts and tools -- but is no Gateway.Did Micro Center go under? Not surplus, but at least had a lot of close-to-hobbyist electronics stuff.
