That would work. Only, suppose the operator set the pressure at 35 PSI the first time and then set it to a lower pressure after discovering that too much paste was flowing too quickly. Once the 35 PSI has reached the gauge and is locked there, you have no other way to release that pressure unless you install a hand valve or a solenoid to relieve that pressure.
Well... I'm the operator in this case ... It is just to see if I am exceeding the maximum pressure of the pump (there is no way to set the pressure on the pump itself) depending on the on time I have chosen and the viscosity of the paste -- to give me an idea. It was going to be a one time test sort of thing. Though the point is valid, if I am going to have this permanently then something will need to be added to release the pressure ...

OK, even though I've never seen one before, I found this:

While it might not be the pressure range you're looking for - they do exis
Thank you!!!

Received the pressure gauge and check valves today. Using this check valve which indicates an opening pressure of 0.1MPA (1bar) I found that the pressure in the line is not held and the needle on the gauge drops quickly. I tried reversing the check valve direction however the issue persists. Not sure if the valve I received is defective or if I am doing something wrong? Since the valve is allowing air to flow in either direction I am assuming the check valve is bad...

I also tried this check valve that indicates an opening pressure of 0.015MPA (0.15bar). This check valve worked and kept the pressure in the line long enough to read the gauge (the pressure slowly escaped and the needle of the gauge slowly went down).

Using the low viscosity paste with 270mS positive pressure and 350mS vacuum pull back resulted in 1 bar on the gauge. Using the high viscosity paste with 649mS positive pressure and no vacuum pull back resulted in 2 bar on the gauge.

Both results are well below the 5bar rating of the pump so assuming the manufacturer rating is correct, I am thinking the pump should be fine..

Attached are the results.

There are different types of Check-Valves.
One type is described as being "Bubble-Tight" and will probably have a Rubber-"O-Ring" Seal,
others may have a Metal-on-Metal "Seal" which may allow some "Seepage".
This is in addition to how much Pressure will be lost by the "Cracking-Pressure" rating.
