I'm another convert,15yrs of 240ish$/month habit down to 20ish$/month.

As for the health concerns of using e-cigs..as a person who has watched people die horrible tobacco related deaths and continued to smoke, I could care less.

It's cheaper,it works and my lung function has improved dramatically so this nicotine, caffeine and Ibuprofen junkie will continue to vap until the FDA,ATF,IRS find a way to bend me over for RJ Reynolds .

I just don't like the vapor cloud and the jackasses who think it is allowed in public places because they are not actually smoking. Sorry if one of you e-cig users fall into by broad jackass generalization but I don't want to smell it while I'm eating.

I also can't believe some states allow smoking in outdoor seating areas of restaurants but that is another topic...
Same goes for people that park in fire lanes..or drive 10 under the speed limit or are driving around on 15 different prescription meds.

Risking other peoples health for personal need or convenience is a jackass move, too bad they don't only exist in public dinning areas.

that I don't get either.
When one lives in the bay Area, we accept the fact that most of the time we spend on the freeway will be either stopped, crawling, or going very slowly due to the constant mass of cars.

What gets me is when we are on I-5 (70 mph speed limit) with light traffic and then you see brake lights and back up caused by some guy in the left lane going 62 mph. And when you finally get up there, it's some dufus in a cadillac with 350 horsepower that could be going 100 with just the slightest pressure of the right foot.

But there he is going 62 mph.

It may be unkind, but I have fantasies of breaking those peoples windows out with a tire iron.

That is interesting. I have never used heroin or meth, but I smoked cigarettes for 15 years and wound up with a pack and a half per day addiction. One day at work, I ran out of cigs and had no money to buy more, so i did without for three hours. When I got home, there were none there, etc. To cut it short, I wound up going to bed early without smoking. The next morning, I realized that it had been 16 hours or so without them. I decided to put off smoking as long as I could. After two weeks of decreasing agony, I finally decided I could quit. It was two years before I got over the habituation. Now, 37 years later, I still occasionally want one, and sometimes dream about smoking. But I don't. If I smoked one cigarette today, I would smoke a pack tomorrow.
My father was addicted for many decades. he claimed that years after he quit, the "cravings" would wake him from a dead sleep. That, of course, is impossible since no drug has an effect that can last years after cessation.

But there is no question in my mind that smoking is probably the most addictive habit on earth for both physical and psychological reasons.

Glad you are rid of it.

that's one of the reasons why people smoke- to cope with stress.

Nicotine is a poison but in small quantities, it is a medicine.

It is a poison at some 100 mg but the therapeutic dose is just one mg or so. There is no risk from poisoning at all.

It is not just an addiction drug. It helps to manage the stress we have to endure in urban environments.

If it would be just for the addiction, I'd have quit for long. One time, I stopped for 10 years. It was hard but not that hard.

But worries I had made me smoking again.

It kinda helps- you can switch off the thinking about some trouble or some uncanny individual.

Here is my take on why there are traffic tie ups on the highway, whether you like it or not.

It is because you are trying to go faster than the car in front of you.

When you are going at any given speed you send a signal to the car and cars coming up behind you that that is the current speed of traffic. The moment you have to hit your brakes traffic piles up behind you and throughput goes way down.

If you are going faster than the car in front of you then it's time to change lanes.

I agree he shouldn't be in the passing lane.

It may be unkind, but I have fantasies of breaking those peoples windows out with a tire iron.
The window you break with a tire iron could be that of your dad, granddad or mine.

Edit: But really, does anyone drive at the speed limit? I see every car doing 10mph or 20km/h over the speed limit.
So the same thing happens when cars are going 80mph and one car is doing the limit at 70mph.

what a coincidence..... my theory about traffic jams is that somewhere at the front of the line, some moron can't seem to drive.

Traffic tie up causes are both complex and simple, the biggest single reason for kali's problems is a complete unwillingness to commit any effort to improve and repair the infrastructure. Brown was governor in 74 and his solution then was for everybody to ride a bike. he is governor today and his solution is a $15 BILLION electric train. They won't fix the roads because they don't want to encourage people to drive cars.

If you are going faster than the car in front of you then it's time to change lanes.
And if you are going under the speed limit in the LEFT lane and see nothing but air in front of you.... it's time for you to change lanes.

I never said I would do it, I said that I sometimes fantasized about it.

There is a speed of traffic flow for any given conditions. And any idiot who impedes it in the left lane forcing traffic to brake and then funnel by on the right is creating an extremely dangerous condition.

Sure, there are people who drive over the speed limit. And if I am in the left lane and some rocket comes up, I move over for basic safety. As for average speed: I drive to sacramento all the time and I almost never see any traffic cruising more than about 6 - 7 mph over the posted limit (whether 65 or 70) for the simple reason that we have a law stating that radar and aircraft can only be used by the CHP on cars going at least 10 over.

But whatever the traffic flow speed is, that defines the safe speed for the through lanes. Anybody impeding it should get off the freeway.

And exercise, and laughter, and music.

For best effect you could go get drunk and stoned and use the treadmill while watching a funny musical. ;)

To Takao; congratulations on inhaling less poison and giving those mega a-hole tobacco companies much less of your money. Well done.

I know that my speed gage shows a few kmph over what I am actually doing.
I have often noticed that live speed cameras / signposts always display less that my gage shows.
But I wonder how much this deviation is, whether it's constant or even universal for all car companies.
Oh, and another useful tip would be on which speed standard does the cops' speed gun operate.

Out here most of them are using instant on laser speed guns so radar detectors are useless. They supposedly have to be kept calibrated, but who knows. The cruel thing is they use red dot aiming devices like for handguns so they can supposedly pick a single car out of a pack, hit the button and nail any car so being in the herd is no longer of any use either.

If you have GPS on your phone, it should give a much more accurate reading of your speed than the speed gauge.

I bought a e-cig this morning. I usually smoke about 15 cigarettes per day, and i have not smoked a real cigarette in 15 hours. This is much better than I thought it would be. I thought e cigarettes were stupid, gimmicky things until recently. People I know who smoke, said they work just as good, then this thread. So I got one, and I am impressed.

It's so convenient. I don't have to finish a smoke once I light it. If one puff does the trick, then I can just put it back in my pocket without smelling like an ash tray. And I don't have to go outside, don't have to take dedicated smoke breaks. I think this will help be be more efficient.

I have noticed though, that while my cravings seem to be satisfied by the e cig, I am more irritable today than usual. Not as bad as when I quit smoking cold turkey, but still worse than normal.

I am using eGo-T with 24mg sauce.

I've recently talked with more savvy e-cigarette users the other day.

They seem to be very satisfied with the overall product. You take your intake of nicotine, without the smell. Plus, it comes a lot cheaper.

As a bonus, EU legislation has banned any potential ban on e-cigarettes on indoor spaces, in contrast to normal cigarettes.

Yes, the Ego is the best I've found. I usually mix it to 24mg, sometimes 20mg.

Local speed displays always show me going 3% to 6% slower than my speedometer because they are mounted at the side of the road and the angle creates an error.

My best experiment was to get on the highway at 60 miles per hour and clock the time between mile markers. The results have always shown my speedometer is accurate to as well as I can measure 60 seconds.

The next big health issue will be from inhaling high boiling point liquids associated with propylene glycol and glycerine - the carrier liquids in e-Cigs.

It is a known issue for people with asthma.

The first big lawsuits were just settled related to bi-acetyl (Artificial butter flavor commonly added to microwave popcorn bags) - no toxicity, just a viscous liquid that your body doesn't need. After years of working in the biacetyl plants, these poor guys just couldn't cough up the viscous liquids any more and died... Slowly.
