Hello,
Not sure if this is possible and how to do this? Any suggestions and help appreciated

I want to power a portable Sony DVD player Model BDP-SX910
The DVD player has a side jack for DC in 12V 1.5A

I want to wire it to a portable battery which was originally designed for laptop computers
It's a Power Station 200 (10 Hour battery) by Total Micro Technologies
The battery does not have power specs written on it. However there is a power adapter
for this battery pack to charge it. It states DC output 15-24V 4.3A & 75W max

I have read that some electronica have built in regulators so you can use adapters with
slightly more power, can I plug Sony DVD player which states 12V 1.5a into the battery
which supplies 15-24V at 4.3a? I assume maybe too high amps is a problem, If so is
there some sort of step down converter I can add to make this work. Both items are DC.

Thank you

Is there a way to hook up an voltage meter and get the specs?

I did find this on the internet:
Battery
Capacity: 9.5 Ah
Enclosure Type: External
Max Recharge Cycles: 500
Recharge Time: 3 hours
Run Time (Up To): 10 hours
Technology: Lithium ion
Voltage Provided: 16 V

Current is not the issue, the supplied voltage from the battery is the issue.

Even tho the device may have a regulator inside supplying too much voltage will cause an issue with heating. Or it may just break things inside that are unknown to those giving advice. Not knowing the internals makes it safer to advise not to try it.

I wont matter if the device is supplied from a source that provides 12v\1.5A or 12v\20A, it will only use the current it needs under normal operating conditions, fault conditions are another matter.
So anything I can install between the Battery and the player to reduce the volts of current to make this work?

My solution is to make a 12V regulator to fit between any DC source and the player.
super simple ! Parts cost maybe 1-2 $
what you need is : 2 plastic film capacitors 0,1- 1 microfarad / 63V and one To-220 integrated circuit part named LM 7812 or (XX) 7812. it has 3 leads , the center one is for ground=0V and should connect to one wire from each capacitor - these 3 wires soldered together , or into the center hole of a 3 hole screw terminal block,
the remaining 2 capacitor leads are connected to the other two leads from the 7812 on the same side of the screw terminal .
The other side of the screw terminal can be used for connecting wires to the battery and the DVD.
Now google the LM 7812 data sheet to see , and note carefully, which leads on a TO-220 should be connected to + 16-36V(max) input , and center lead is the common in / out ground 0V , and which one should provide 12V to the load ie DVD player. DO NOT connect it the other way round , it may not survive this.
The 7812 metal flap is internally connected to the center lead / ground = 0V . Do not short to the + wires! Depending on the current drawn, the 7812 may get hot , so to share the heat, attach by screwing its metal flap ( 3mm screw ) to a small 1-2 inch square or bigger , 1/8" or 2-3mm thick aluminum bit . Charging must be on the 16-V input = battery +
Now this is a real tech solution !

I'd like to thank all the people who responded to my request. I soldered a cable together using a converter from Ebay here

Waterproof 24V(14-40V) To 12V 5A 60W DC/DC Converter Regulator which had simple marked leads on each end. I got the correct Sony connector wired between the battery and the DVD, powers it up and runs fine. Simple solution.

Thank you all :)
