Dimmer for an aspirator (evaporative cooler)

Hello,

I have an evaporative cooler which is too noisy for the application I want to use it for, I'd like to ask if it's possible to use a dimmer for it in order to drastically reduce the noise. Of course I'm aware that decreasing the fan speed will decrease the efficiency of the device, but this is not a problem at all, it's already oversized. My issue is only the noise (around 60dB at minimum...).
In particular I'm talking of this device:

I know there is also a water pump inside, but I can simply disconnect it and run it separately.

Do you think it's a feasible workaround?
Will decreasing the speed to 1/2 or 1/3 of the selectable lowest speed significantly decrease the noise?
Which type of dimmer do I need? one for induction motors, right?

Thanks

Absolutely unbelievable price!!! $500 (regular price $700!!!) .... this has no compressor , just a (noisy) fan , and water flowing over a screen or similar .... only good for dry atmosphere .... works by dissolving water in the air increasing humidity and so reducing temp slightly .... the problem is unit is very small and the fan will be noisy pushing air through grills and restricted spaces

My thoughts are decreasing fan speed even lower than the minimum setting will render it almost ineffective , you could try a standard dimmer on the motor , a few $ from eBay , or domestic light dimmer will work ....You only want to put dimmer on main motor ... Dimmers usually have two terminals , you need to cut the wire going from N to main motor and connect dimmer in-between .

Much better to make your own with a mister .... attachments are available which produce fine mist of fog ..(fairly good water pressure needed) fan not really essential , can be almost silent.
