Hi All,
I have installed a 240v tracer wire to stop my pipes freezing in winter. The tracer wire and thermostat are fully sealed with no indication for on or off. I would like to fit something inside the 240v fused spur to indicate if the device is on via a LED. The only way I can think of doing this is to measure the current drawn by the device and when it goes over a preset limit( say 500mA) it lights the LED.
Any ideas how I can do this.

Tracer wire means something completely different. You installed a heat tape.

You could use a current transformer or hall effect sensor. You could also sense temperature.
