Half-truths, misrepresentations, and tendentious conjecture.

I've no idea about the entire gene sequence but a tiny bit of searching show those sequences "CGG codons *are* found in all coronaviruses, albeit at low frequency".

According to Andersen, the CGG codon isn't quite as rare in coronaviruses. He also comments that the stability of the CGG codon in the Furin cleavage site has been remarkably high over the course of the pandemic, which is a hint that the CGG codon may be selected for and crucial for the virus.

Quoting him:

> Now, the codons. Here, Baltimore is talking about the two codons coding for the first two arginines (R) following the P - CGG. The CGG codon is rare in viruses because it's an example of an unmethylated "CpG" site that can be bound by TLR9, leading to immune cell activation.

> Despite being rare, however, CGG codons are found in all coronaviruses, albeit at low frequency. Specifically, of all arginine codons, CGG is used at these frequencies in these viruses:

> SARS: 5% SARS2: 3% SARSr: 2% ccCoVs: 4% HKU9: 7% FCoV: 2%

> Nothing unusual here.

> Furthermore, if we go back to the FCoV sequences and compare them to SARS-CoV-2 at the nucleotide level you'll see that FCoV also uses CGG to code for R immediately following the P. The next R is CGA (non-CpG) in FCoV, while it's CGG in SARS-CoV-2 - one nucleotide difference.

> We see CGG multiple times in different ways - here's an example comparing another "PR" stretch between SARS-CoV-2, RaTG13, and SARS-CoV in the N gene. Note how SARS-CoV-2 and RaTG13 both use CGG, while SARS-CoV-2 uses CGC for the first R, while later R's are coded by CGT or AGA

> One final point about the CGG codons in the FCS - if they were somehow "unnatural", we'd see SARS-CoV-2 evolve away from "CGG" during the ongoing pandemic. We have more than a million genomes to analyze, so what do we find if we look at synonymous mutations at the "CGG_CGG" site?

> Remarkably stable. Specifically, CGG is 99.87% conserved in the first codon and 99.84% conserved in the second.

> This is very strong evidence that SARS-CoV-2 'prefers' CGG in these positions.

Fair enough. A few more questions remain however.

More importantly, why are we entrusting gain-of-function research to the Chinese in the first place (on our dime no less). Can they be really be trusted? China doesn't exactly have the best track record for transparency, nor has it proven itself to be the benevolent ally that it would like us to believe.

Moreover, if it was developed in their labs then the obvious question becomes what really happened. Was it accidental or intentional? If the latter, we should be very concerned indeed...

The Chinese lab leak conspiracy theory is boring as hell.
"There is an evil conspiracy by western scientists to cover up the fact that they are doing research that puts the lives of billions of people at risk."

Zero evidence click-bait to sell soap.

“Nothing says vaccinations like a stripper pole,” said the couple’s friend George Stoecklin, who joined them to get his shot.
I thought Utah was going to do a lottery but, Utah has a no gambling law on the books so, Nevada banks on their loses e.g. at the Table.

No lottery for you kv no lottery for you.

Not even a shot for a shot, even though I stopped drinking. At least I could offer it to a friend.

Wearing a mask may go from a symbol of responsibility to vulnerability as California reopens

L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn went so far this week as to urge the public to not shame or bully or give dirty looks to people who continue wearing masks when it's no longer required.

The state's guidelines recognize this, too — stating that no one can be prevented from wearing a mask as a condition of participating in an activity or entering a business.
The pandemic is officially over now that mask wearers are a protected class in California.

If they don’t want a free vaccine, maybe they will accept free tickets to the Monster Truck Rally, gun shows and other similar crowded indoor events.
So my suggestions of gun shows and truck rallies has been taken to another level. The Governor of WVirginia is just having lotteries for trucks, rifles, shotguns, free hunting licenses for life and more.

Starting June 20, West Virginia will give out $1 million and other prizes each week up until Aug. 4, when two grand prizes of nearly $1.6 million and $580,000 will be announced, according to state officials.
Other prizes include two new custom-outfitted trucks, 25 weekend getaways to local state parks, five lifetime hunting and fishing licenses, five custom hunting rifles and five custom hunting shotguns. Two full four-year scholarships to any institution in West Virginia will also be awarded to vaccinated 12- to 25-year-olds.

Portland area mass vaccination sites to hand out $100 grocery gift cards for first doses
This is the latest incentive offered to those who have been hesitant to receive a COVID-19 shot in Oregon. Other efforts have included the state’s “Take Your Shot Oregon” lottery with cash prizes and scholarships as well as bars offering free beer. Gov. Kate Brown has said Oregon’s COVID-19 restrictions will be mostly lifted once 70% the state’s adult population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. As of noon Thursday, Oregon was 2.8% of adults shy of that threshold, equal to 93,444 people statewide.

Umm, squeaks about money for homeless people living on the street and eating out of garbage cans and their kids don't have a laptop to join online classes but we you're saying we should pay someone $10M to get a vaccine? Warped.
The mind boggles at this apparent attempt in thought.
