How Neanderthal DNA affects human health -- including the risk of getting Covid-19
How Neanderthal DNA affects human health -- including the risk of getting Covid-19 (msn.com)
The scientists examined a strand of DNA that has been associated with some of the more serious cases of Covid-19 and compared it to genetic sequences known to have been passed down to living Europeans and Asians from Neanderthal ancestors. The Neanderthal DNA strand is found on chromosome 3; a team of researchers in Europe has linked certain variations in this sequence with the risk of being more severely ill when infected by Covid-19.

Unexpected: In the US, blacks are more likely to succumb to Wuhan than whites. AFAIK, those with African ancestry don't possess Neanderthal DNA.

I noticed that also but there is some info about that in the article. It should be also be noted that there is quite a bit of gene mixing throughout the world.

You can see how late the MSM is with this sort of stuff.

Recipients of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine should abstain from alcohol for nearly two months before and after immunization, the head of Russia’s consumer safety watchdog said Tuesday.
Where I live the same kind of advice is given by doctors no matter what the complaint. Gosh, I could just stay home, save the cost of the consultation, and guess what their instructions are going to be.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- Los Angeles County health officials acted "arbitrarily'' and without a proper "risk-benefit" analysis when they banned outdoor dining as a coronavirus-control measure, a judge ruled Tuesday, but the decision won't immediately restore in-person dining.

Following a hearing that lasted more than an hour, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Chalfant upheld an earlier tentative ruling, in which he found that the county "failed to perform the required risk-benefit analysis" before enacting the ban.

"By failing to weigh the benefits of an outdoor dining restriction against its costs, the county acted arbitrarily and its decision lacks a rational relationship to a legitimate end,'' Chalfant wrote in his ruling, which stemmed from lawsuits filed by the California Restaurant Association and the owner of the downtown Engine Co. No. 28 restaurant, attorney Mark Geragos.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KABC) -- California officials on Wednesday quietly updated the state's guidelines by deeming playgrounds to be essential and allowing them to remain open amid a stay-at-home order prompted by a surge in coronavirus cases.
...
Outdoor playgrounds were initially forced to close under Gov. Gavin Newsom's regional stay-home order.

Well, if you are in a high risk group, it may prevent severe disease. For everyone else it does not seem to be of much benefit based on minimal information that has been released. It does not prevent infection, it is unknown whether it prevents transmission as that was not tested and of course has unknown side effects.

This is the beginning of a true trial.

What happened with the UQ/CSL vaccine?
The vaccine had been in stage one of trials, and proving to be effective in making antibodies.
But it also generated HIV antibodies in some recipients - which meant it showed false positives for HIV. Further testing proved the HIV wasn't there.
CSL and UQ said fixing the flaw would take about a year, prompting a decision to abandon the trial.
"It was likely to work. But we knew that we didn't want to have any issues with confidence, and this false-positive test may have caused some confusion and lack of confidence," said Brendan Murphy, secretary of Australia's Department of Health.

That was my first thought as well. Surprisingly they abandoned it? Probably because they saw no immediate profit to cause than to pursue it without a huge influx of grant monies to pay for further research.
I only wish it could eventually be a HIV vaccine but there already are good HIV vaccine candidates in the normal testing protocols that takes years instead of the WARP speed of an emergency approval where the general population is actually part of the testing protocol.
