The Coastal GA county I live in has had 4 cases with 1 fatality out of a population of ~14k (at least that is the "Official Count"). Even with having the I-95 corridor running through it (not much here to stop for). Lots of retirees and most of the kids move to the big city for jobs after school/military/college/etc. Lots more infected/deaths in the counties surrounding us. So far been lucky that no one we know has been stricken, even among our many friends and relatives spread across the world. Not sure where my Boston relatives are but sure they left Boston for their Condo in Vero Beach or their ranch in Montana instead of staying in the hot spot.

I agree. In an earlier post I mentioned that a study should be made on the cost of lives of not reopening the economy vs reopening it. But I emphasize that the cost should be evaluated on the amount of lives, not on the amount of money.

Cleveland and geography plays into it. I wasn't aware Boston had that many cases. Like any city, we have confirmed cases and deaths, I just haven't known any directly. Immediate family is a hundred miles south in the Columbus, OH area. Thinking about it and memories of Boston they like NYC have a large and busy mass transit network. Mass transit has to be great for spreading a virus.

As has been previously observed by Cooper et al. (1983), adding a layer of nylon stocking over the masks minimized the flow of air around the edges of the masks and improved particle filtration efficiency for all masks, including all commercial products tested. Hmmm... Then it's not working very well. Much worse than I would have expected. When I wore one of those masks pulverizing coal samples they would always leave coal tracks around my nose where they were leaking air in. They are a "cheap throw-away" substitute for a real respirator. Caveat Emptor

Why not just cut to the chase and wear a bra over her face

 

I have seen pictures of masks made from bra cups. My niece has one with small penis' all over it. The idea is if they say "Hey your mask has penis' on it" they are too close to her. One wild and crazy Psychiatrist babe.

 

This is not meant to gross anyone out. On my weekly shopping trip the Cleveland, I stopped in the appropriate section of a local Marc's supermarket and was browsing pads. They are cheap, very fine mesh, and soft. My idea was to simply punch two holes. Loop rubber bands through the holes to attach around my ears, and cut off any unnecessary material, like this:


Well, I started getting the weirdest looks from masked women and stocking clerks, so I gave up on the idea. Guess I am too worried about my image in the community. But for someone else, maybe a cheap solution.
