Convert 2 AAA with 3v AC adapter

Hello All,

I am confused and need some help. I have a baggage scale unit (bsu) using 2 AAA batteries. I am trying to convert it with the help of a adapter/transformer Input 110v, output 3v – 1Amp.

I built dummy batteries (db) out of 3/8 dowels, wired each db with screw on either side. I connected these db to the adapter and test them with a multi meter I get 3.5v. I install the same in the bsu.

After I install the 2 db, into the bsu compartment (just like the 2 AAA batteries). I turn on the bsu, I get no power. With the pos – neg wire still connected to the adapter and the 2 db installed the bsu compartment, I test the voltage, I get 0.12v, how is this possible, am I doing something wrong?

Do I require 2 diodes rectifier and a capacitor for this to function? If yes, what are the sizes that I require to purchase?

Hope I have explained it correctly, did my best. hope you understand. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

You have the two terminals of each battery shirted together. Why? When installed in the battery compartment, this is creating a short across the supply.

Hi BobTPH,

Thanks for your response, That's the reason I said I am confused. Can you please tell me where I am going wrong. If you can correct the diagram I would appreciate. Thanks

Your diagram shows shorted batteries but I think they are not batteries, instead they are shorted wooden dummy batteries so that you can solder the adapter output wires to them.
Get rid of the shorting wires that might have destroyed the adapter.
