I hate to break it to you, but it's mostly that we're getting more exposure to how little people know every year. What you're saying is like saying that COVID-19 cases go down the less you test—yeah, less testing does reduce the recorded number of cases, but that doesn't mean that it reduces the actual number.

Actually, you're missing the point. The common thought is that we're getting smarter. But that is entirely unsupported.

You make the assumption that testing isn't being done- it _is_ being done. And people in general are less able to answer questions about the world around them than ever before. What color is an Orange and where is South America are not questions I posed, but questions that adults and highschoolers are failing _today_. And those are just two examples.

If you choose to believe that people are getting smarter all the time, you are blinding yourself to the growing mob-mentality that exists and is spreading. It's like people in the US thinking we have a Democracy- we don't. We have a Republic. For good reason. So mob mentality cannot prevail.

I'm not really sure if you know this, but IQ isn't exactly a reliable measure of how smart people are—not to mention how fluid IQ scores are over a person's life: they don't just stay one value forever.

Also, a lot of these articles seem to be more based on being sensationalist click-pieces than anything. For example, the NBC article is an opinion piece written by somebody who's in charge of a non-profit that runs market analysis and the like; the CNN article's only source is a single study—and that study only takes place in Norway (that also says that the "Flynn effect" is very much reversible); the World Economic Forum article cites the exact same study as the CNN article—and the MedicalXPress article does too. Essentially, all of the articles are a big piece of getting a single shred of evidence for something, and then stretching whatever is being said so far out that it practically becomes unrecognizable.

Thinking that people are smart or stupid doesn’t apply in these cases, rather it’s more “Bells Curve” if judging students in a class you would get the majority of C students minority of A’s and minority of F’s, while some would be able to tell you Quantum Mechanics is vs the Standard Model in the end it’s more like Chimps “that we are” Monkey see Monkey do, so many people with their carts full of Toilet Paper and Cases of Water at the Market at first no masks and hoarding, most of those people I suspect became the victims of this stupidity, ignorance is not bliss, it’s just choosing to be ignorant of the fact of social distance and masks or shielding from forced spray at a distance, cough or sneeze. The stupidity of these people are flooding Hospitals once again, it will be those people who will decide the fate of many.

Humanity is not getting smarter or dumber. I gave come to a conclusion that it is quite static. As collective knowledge accumulates, we choose to do nothing with it. We also loose knowledge, skills and ability as out needs change and as we burn books and rewrite history to choose our prefered narrative of today. This has been going on throughout our history and we are simply not learning...

A big problem is in our education system rather than people themselves. As a recent high school graduate, I can say with a lot of certainty that the American school system is just total bollocks—that and America has a big issue with entitled jackasses that think that washing their hands is tyranny. Nothing against you personally, but it does seem like you have a bit of a negativity bias—granted 2020 has been pretty awful so I wouldn't blame you.
