can i make a ne555 reduce current and be a timer
i need to go from 12v dc to 4 v dc and one minute on one minute off constant rotation on the timer
i sure thank you guys for any help

Try defining that a little tighter. What kind of timer?

A CMOS 555 (which comes in many flavors from several companies) operates from 2V - 18V. Is this what you mean?

 

I think the OP wants to reduce his voltage from a 12v input to 4v and then have a timer high(4v) for one min then low(0v) for one min looping.

I think he is hoping the ne555 is a VOLTAGE regulator opposed to a CURRENT reducer and a timer all in one.

At least that is what I got out of the post.

If so, The ne555 can do the on, off timer part, but you will require additional components for the voltage reduction.

You could use a 7805 to go from 12v to 5v then a diode to drop to ~4v.

I should ask, What do you want to turn on and off? That will define current requirements.
