It'll work just fine with the GND pin connected to "0" and the Vcc pin connected to +12. This is equivalent to ±6v, which again is fine.

Now, depending on what you want to DO with it, you might need to establish a "virtual ground", making 6v the new "ground", so that you have true ±6v. Such a technique is sometimes called a "rail splitter".

But for many applications, a single supply is just fine.
