I should have made it clear they were tied together only for the purposes of the simulation.
It in the real circuit, they will be separate (AND) inputs.
Oh, thank you so much, I do appreciate you clarifying this, as it was driving me insane trying to figure this out...lol. I ppreciate you getting back to me regarding this.

If I am not using a Mosfet, but a small transistor driving a relay, what happens to the 555 pin 4 connection
Why would it change?
You need to show exactly what you indeed to do, as I see no relation between pin 4 and a transistor driving a relay from the output (pin 3).

Thank you. Ive built the circuit, and triple checked all connections, and cannot get it to work, unfortunately
Then we need to troubleshoot.

Disconnect the wire between the transistor and the Reset (pin 4) on the 555.
Does it then have an oscillating signal on the Output (pin 3).

see nothing on the output of both pin 3 or pin 4 of the 555
Pin 4 is not an output, it's the 555 Reset signal from the transistor.
So what is "nothing" on pin 4.

Did you disconnect the wire to pin 4 as I asked?
when I short out the 2 resistors on the 555 the 4017 lights up all the 4017s leds quickly
Why would you short the resistors?

What "leds"?
If you have leds on the outputs, that could be the problem (and why are you modifying the circuit and still expecting it to work?).

Post the exact circuit you have so I'm know what you are referring to.

So what is "nothing" on pin 4. Im sorry, thought you sked for that.

Did you disconnect the wire to pin 4 as I asked?yes
Why would you short the resistors?to see if the 555 was truly capable of oscillating, only did it for a few seconds

What "leds"?I have added leds to the output just to see what is happening with the 4017. I do not have a power Mosfet, but have ordered one.

i will build replies into your questions.

I would like to thank both Crutschow and Analogue Kid for their help in massaging my disturbed mind farts into beautiful designs!!.
Thank you guys!!!
I have made both of your current and past designs several times, and they always work!!!!!
