Cheap chip to play sounds?

I'm looking for a cheap chip that I can periodically wake up to play some sounds on and then turn the chip back off to save power. The application is a small battery powered audio player that you put in the woods near a trail camera and at certain times or events it plays audio to get an animal to come closer for a picture.

I've looked for a chip that does this and haven't found anything great but I assume there must be a ton out there with all the audio applications these days. Any suggestions on a circuit of chip for this project? Hard to beat these but I was hoping for a more elegant solution without memory card limitations:

Adafruit has some ok solutions but I'd like to keep it relatively cheap so I can build a lot of them. Thanks in advance :)

It's a personal project so don't have a real budget but ideally like to stick around $10 for a speaker, PVC housing, and electronics if possible..

Thanks for the links!!
