BMS is measuring 13 cells (48V Li-Ion pack) via microcontroller using LTC6812, but as an extra protection I'd like to add also a software independent overvoltage cut off for the pack. System should monitor each cell and when threshold for overvoltage is reached on any of the cells, it will cut of charging without any control from software.
My idea is to use comparator ICs which are powered by the monitored cell, when overvoltage is detected it will output signal via optoisolator to a switch stage.
Am I enlargening the safety issues or is this a proper method?, what other ideas we might have ?
