Can exist different pinout for a transistor with same part number?

I can't think of a TO-92 transistor I've ever used that didn't have the base on pin 2.
What a strange thing to say.

In my stock I have

European BC639 & BFR40, both b-c-e

American MPSH10 c-e-b, TIPP31 b-c-e

Jananese 2SC1318 b-c-e

This is only a quick look at NPN ones.

Edit @ Bertus I should have a quick re-look at the data you posted.

The RF version of the transistor family that preceded the BC547/557 variety had the emitter in the middle.

AFAICR; the BC147/157 had the standard EBC layout - the RF parts; BF194/195 were BEC.

Thanks

Its just that I also noticed I have a hundred or so BC157 (PNP) in my stock with e-c-b
These are the 'push-fit' ones if I remember correctly, though it's a long time since I've used one.

Those lockfit transistors are NASTY!

They're a PITA for mounting on stripboard and if you try to graft lead extensions on, they just snap off.

When I started building up my junk box, there was a plague of those things! As soon as I could get hold of transistors with proper leads, I had a big clearout of the lockfits.

There might be a small handful of RF types in a tobacco tin somewhere.
