Boost converter: 555 timer heating up, problem with operational durability.

i was trying to drive a boost converter of with 60mhenry, 1000uf, 2n7000 mosfet, 2n4148 diode, with frequency of 2khz from a variable duty cycle 555 timer pulse generator, 12v power supply to produce between 15 v and 24v based on duty cycle adjustment. the pulse generator and converter are connected to the same power supply and ground.

Hello,

Did you make a typo?
The 2N4148 is a thyristor and not a diode.
The 1N4148 is a small signal diode.
You will likely need a more powerfull and faster diode in that place.

A resistor of 22 to 100 Ohms between the output of the 555 and the gate of the mosfet might reduce the heating of the 555.

Simulation says the average power dissipation in the 555 should be less than 50mW, so if your 555 is over-heating you have either a circuit error or a faulty/fake 555.

Did you make a typo?
