I didn't read where you said the temperature dropped by 40°F (22°C).

I assumed you meant the absolute temperature was 40°F (4°C).

 

-20 F with -50 to -60 F wind chills and snowing. Standard winter here.

Sounds like where I am in VT. There was a frostbite warning out the other day, spend 10 minute outside and your skin would literally freeze.

-3 degrees here in kansas this morning -15 wind chill, only 2 inches of snow thankfully. speaking of thanks, THANK GOD FOR INDOOR PLUMBING!

In Boston's suburbs it was -15F over the weekend and snowy. Now it's approaching 50F and rainy. Our 14" of snow is fast disappearing.

Whereabouts are you in the Boston suburbs, if you don't mind me asking? I used to live in an apartment near Huntington Avenue, right in downtown Boston.

Oh yeah, the weather, 3°f and a light dusting of snow..

 

Found out how to do it with Linux, type ctrl+shift+u then enter the hex code for the unicode character, then press enter - simples.
It's about 8°C here. (Degree is B0 as hex)
I didn't realise how many unicode characters there are - now I can do strange mathematical symbols ≸, there's even one for celcius ℃

 

If I do CTL+SHFT+u I get the underscore tags inserted. This is in Win7.

 

I'm guessing it will only work on Linux, ctrl+u turns underline on on most systems (actually in my browser it doesn't work - for some reason it is the shortcut for "view page source").
Before pressing enter it looks like ubo but then it turns into the symbol.

No kidding! One of my coworkers lives right there in Weymouth, about a quarter mile from the Braintree T stop (if I remember correctly).

 

Around here we expect to have again around 40ºC (104ºF) for few days. And even more in the North of the country.

From the 27th to the 1st I had not power and had to climb 7 floors every time I went to Starbucks for an espresso.

BTW, in my keyboard I can type º and ª with no problems.

It would have to be an ongoing sequence of enormous nuclear explosions because it isn't enough to alter the tilt of the Earth once. You would have to change the rate of precession of the equinoxes so that it goes through a complete cycle every year instead of the present 26,000 year cycles. I guess another way to do it would be to alter the length of the day so that the Earth is sun-synchronous such that wherever you are is always facing the sun, though finding a location that is actually comfortable year round might still be a challenge.

Or you could just move to San Diego.

Hmm, I didn't think it was that far, but I suppose it could have been. I've walked there before and it seemed very short. It also may be possible that my coworker lives just on the outskirts of Weymouth. Anyway, I'm taking this off topic

and I had to walk a mile to school, and a mile back, uphill both ways!

Best memory: Throwing my sister off the roof into a snowdrift that was 8 feet high.

Worst memory: Being so cold that I couldn't tell if the bath water was warm or not.

 

I recently had a job offer to go work in the oil patch in North Dakota. 3 weeks on, weeks off. 3X-4X my current salary. We stood outside in humid 35-40*(F) weather and the guy making the offer was comfortable, wearing short sleeves, drinking cold beer, while I shivered uncontrollably in a thick jacket drinking whiskey. He showed me videos on his phone of snow blowing upwards from the ground, and talked about how every time he comes back to Houston he gets sick, and quite often hospitalized with pneumonia. And he works in an enclosed cabin watching gauges. The work he wants me to do is outside, setting up/troubleshooting/tearing down all the electrical components of the rig for every move.

I told him I would think about it, and I did. In the morning, sober, the offer did not seem nearly as enticing as it did the night before. $250,000/yr minimum sounds real nice, but you have to be able to DO the work, and I don't think I could. Even if I was able to pull some kind of "mind over matter" stunt and fulfill the requirements of the job, what's the money for when you're effing miserable and you can't even come home and be healthy and relax?

For 2.5 million dollars/year, I would try it. At least that way if/when I flake out, my first/last paycheck will offset the loss of my previous job.

 

So cold here I had to rescue a dog that was frozen to a fire hydrant.
