Primary batteries can "recover" slightly if allowed to rest, and can deliver more energy overall if they are cycled out with another one as in your 2nd strategy. If by "efficiency", you mean mAh delivered per $ spent on batteries, this might be slightly more efficient.just a couple conceptual questions.
Is it better to use one battery until it's gone
or
Is it better to use two batteries little by little simultaneously until they're gone.
