Nations around the planet are making a subtle but consequential pivot in their war against the coronavirus: Crushing the virus is no longer the strategy. Many countries are just hoping for a draw.

It's a strategic retreat, signaled in overt and subtle ways from Washington to Madrid to Pretoria, South Africa, to Canberra, Australia. Notably, few countries today outside of China - which is still locking down cities - cling to a "zero-covid" strategy.
...
Even officials in Australia, long a fortress nation that sought to suppress the virus at all costs, have chosen to ease some mandates in recent weeks.

The country has gained global headlines for its treatment of unvaccinated tennis champion Novak Djokovic, who flew in for the Australian Open and immediately ran afoul of the government's virus protocols, spending the better part of a week in a detention hotel. On Friday, Australia's immigration minister canceled the player's visa a second time.

But the other national story in Australia is a debate over the relaxed restrictions. National and state leaders had an agreement that strict measures would end when vaccination reached 80% of the eligible population. That threshold was reached months ago, and now more than 90% of the eligible population is vaccinated. Masks are still required in some indoor settings, and there are capacity limits, but opposition leaders and some experts have decried what they call the "let it rip" strategy.
But humans change, too. Outside of locked-down China, most people are no longer immunologically naive to the coronavirus. Scientists believe that's a factor in omicron's relatively low severity for individual patients. In the long term, humans and viruses tend to reach something like a stalemate. Only one disease-causing virus, smallpox, has ever been eradicated.

In the short term, experts believe omicron is essentially unstoppable but of limited threat to individuals even as it causes societal chaos. Ali Mokdad, an epidemiologist at the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, said he believes that about half of the U.S. population will be infected with omicron during the next three months, with most cases asymptomatic.
It's long past the time to 'live' with the virus. It's not a war we can 'win'.

It should have ben so easy. Everyone get the shot and take care of them selves. But No we got a whole bunch of idiots that believe vaccines are dangerous. And it became a a political issue so that not getting vaccinated is supporting a political party. And that same party is now killing a lot of people because they are not vaccinated so they are free. Makes me sick. And a lot of people dead.

We could have won. Just like with Polio. It took a long time and convincing a lot of people. But now, there are so many unconvincible people that maybe it’s impossible. How can we battle against Joe Rogan and his lies? Makes me sick.

Handling lies are easy in the context of 'winning' and the virus.

Blaming those people of this planet for the current situation is not based in fact. With the current levels of vaccination even Florida had the lowest case levels in the country before the Omicron wave hit (discovered in SA) with the ability to bypass vaccination and boosters to transmit the virus. We need a vaccine with no or extremely low infection breakthrough. We don't have one in use and may never have one that can handle all possible future variants.

Name just one Coronavirus we eliminated? 1918 Flu is still around.

https://www.thedenverchannel.com/ne...t-will-eventually-find-everyone-dr-fauci-says
White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday that just about everyone in the U.S. will likely be exposed to the omicron variant at some point in the near future.

"I think, in many respects, omicron, with its extraordinary, unprecedented degree of efficiency of transmissibility, will, ultimately, find just about everybody," Fauci told the Center for Strategic & International Studies on Tuesday.

However, Fauci noted that while omicron has been shown to evade vaccines at a higher rate than past variants, those who are vaccinated and have gotten a booster shot still have ample protection from the virus.

"Those who have been vaccinated and vaccinated and boosted would get exposed," Fauci said. "Some, maybe a lot of them, will get infected but will very likely, with some exceptions, do reasonably well in the sense of not having hospitalization and death."

The TV news said today that an unvaccinated person is 19 times more likely to require hospital treatment than a vaccinated person but did not mention 3 doses so the number is much higher when compared with a 3 dose person.
Doctors and nurses in hospitals say 3 dose people do not need hospitalization.

Hospital treatment is not just a free bed and lunch, it and recovery are miserable and painful.
Antivaxxers are cowboys who boast to their friends how "tough" they are and they are not wimps who are vaccinated. They do not care about the many people they pass the virus to and do not know about the misery of hospital treatment when they are almost dying because they can barely breath.
They are too slow to learn that the vaccine is safe and effective.

Sounds like someone's been immersing themselves in some of that sensationalistic media coverage that's been going around lately. In truth there are plenty of people on both sides who have done good work toward eradicating this thing. So do please stop with the finger-pointing already!

Much has already been accomplished. And Covid has basically been tamed by the collective human immune system at this point. Which of course is pretty much on par with what we have seen in the past. (Well we ARE the product of BILLIONS of years of self-innoculating evolution...)

Maybe in your country, but not mine. My country is still experiencing 1000-2000+ deaths daily. The vast majority of the deaths are unvaccinated people so it's on them, but some of them are taking up hospital beds and causing problems for others who need urgent critical care. My state is one pile-up on I5 away from filling up available ICU beds. We're at 96% utilization and have 42 ICU beds available in the whole state.

Per capita, the US had the highest number of infections and deaths and is still having a difficult time with this virus.

Yesterday, I visited a local church where my wife attends, they serve food and provide community support to the homeless, while standing outside where the line from the coffee, donuts, bread, biscuit's and gravy I spoke with a good friend of mine. I was there looking for musicians interested in my new project, a broadcast recording studio in my garage. Anyway it was a good experience for me, I learned about their contributions to the community but found out that the guy serving them my long time friend in speaking to an individual just passing through the parking lot to tell him, he just got out of the ICU’s 24 day intubation and rehab. As he was about to drive away, my long time friend exclaimed I’ve had COVID twice.

Didn’t continue the conversation at the moment and I was just about to leave. Driving away rationalizing my behavior, that I was in a very dangerous area. I may have averted direct contact, my wife was working that day learned I had stopped by, she angry I didn’t at least go inside. I told her plenty of God was outside helping the people there get food, clothing and blankets. I didn’t need anything from the inside the building the experience was spiritual, like walking in the forest.

if that is local news, it is wrong. vaccinated people make 3/4 of population. also 3/4 of the hospitalized Covid patients are vaccinated. i did not know that 3/4 is 19 times higher than 3/4. but i agree that they should do better job in tracking and clearly show number of shots.

Doctors and nurses in hospitals say 3 dose people do not need hospitalization.
That is not what i hear.

Hospital treatment is not just a free bed and lunch, it and recovery are miserable and painful.

Lol, they sure are not afraid of dying or being hospitalized. But plenty of 3x vaccinated are afraid of pain and dying. So you are agreeing that antivaxxers have a point there?

Also how does the vaccine destroys virus? i thought it does not incinerate it before it contacts body, it lets immune system fight the virus after virus is ... well... in the body. And even then it is not an instant resolution - it takes time and effort to win the war.

So if 3/4 of population are vaccinated and not nearly as restricted as unvaccinated, it would appear that vast number of super spreaders are the vaccinated themselves.

but do not worry about available ICU beds. this thing seem to be blown over and in the last week free ICU beds went from 505 to 555. a 10% improvement.

They are too slow to learn that the vaccine is safe and effective.
They must not watch the same TV channel, or perhaps they try to fact check any info presented. Perhaps they are saying, let's see how this plays out, something does not seem to be right with things like 19x claim or "if you get vaccinated you won't get virus" or "vaccinated do not spread virus", or "unvaccinated are spreading the virus even if they are forced into lockdown and isolation and test negative". Perhaps they suspect that any body (dead or alive, vaccinated or not) may carry the virus. Perhaps they think that media is not reporting things truthfully or omit to mention certain things.

I guess we wont know until one or more of antivaxxers come here to tell their side. Perhaps they are not looing forward to have a conversation since there is bunch of others that attack them regularly and want to crucify them.

Mistruths told by antivaxxers are simple lies. The vaccine saves lives and shortens an infection.
Even though 85% of people are vaccinated the ICU is half full of antivaxxers extremely sick with Covid-19.
The other half of ICU patients are vaccinated people with other morbid medical problems.
Doctors and nurses say they have never seen a person in the ICU lately that has the 3rd dose.

The vaccine does not make people magnetic or radioactive. The vaccine saves lives and prevents many hospitalizations.

More antivaxxers get the virus than vaccinated people. The third dose makes the vaccine better at preventing the new variant from infecting and even prevents hospitalization.

Yes, 19 times more antivaxxers are hospitalized than vaccinated people because the vaccine causes the symptoms to be none or minor.

Was it an antivaxxer who said the 3rd dose killed Betty White at age 99? Without mentioning the severe stroke she had a few days before dying.
A ball player was vaccinated and died young. He would have died anyway with a heart problem without the vaccination.

Actually - mistruths told by anyone are lies.

Same goes for claims of drug manufacturers. Same goes for FDA approvals. Same goes for news organizations....

And you continue stretching things and pulling data of thin air rather than supporting your claims.

pretty sure that would be a welcome news if true. it would be win for everyone, specially with controversy of vaccine efficacy.
but if booster shot falls short of expectation, i would expect that someone would have interest to keep that info buried.
and what a surprise, stats don't show how many of hospitalized have had booster shot. still wonder why?

same is with efficacy claims. Merck claimed that pill helps in 50% of cases. then it was revealed that it only helped in 3% of moderate cases. and by "helped" it does not state to what degree. maybe patients just needed one less trip to washroom while hospitalized? almost sounds like another "19x" stretch?

and 3% sounds pathetic considering severity and long lasting effects of side effects. Still had majority of votes to get it approved. The same way the Pfizer got approved and in just 108 days. Not sure how they managed considering volume of supporting data (allegedly 329000 pages). that means someone was reading 4272 pages a day. that comes up to some 6 seconds per page when reading 7 days a week. sounds normal?
that same volume is the reason for delayed disclosure. when pressed to follow own rules of immediate disclosure upon approval, FDA refused. FDA wanted to review and redact at 500 pages per month - and that means many years of withholding data. Fortunately judge did not buy it so that was tossed out and said data shall be disclosed within months not years.

close it down. it will prove that controversial topics are allowed unopposed - as long as they serve one agenda.
the moment one asks for data or questions validity of something posted it quickly gets closed.
