Hundreds Arrested Following Anti-Lockdown Protest at Melbourne War Memorial

“We will do everything we can to stop the gatherings in compliance with the chief health officer guidelines,” he said.
...
Patton said he “wasn’t clear” whether right-wing extremists were present in the crowd on Tuesday, but was “aware” there was representation from neo-Nazi groups in recent protests.
Godwin's law has been invoked. Is the chief health officer running the country now?

The Aussie government is behaving like a bunch of control freaks, IMO ... pretty much trying to follow Beijing's example. But it's not working because of sharp cultural differences.

The New South Wales health minister Brad Hazzard insists police will be responsible for enforcing entry restrictions on unvaccinated people – a position at odds with the state’s police commissioner who said officers would “not be walking through restaurants, cafes and pubs checking if people are double vaccinated”.

Commissioner Dawson said the multiple incidents were a reminder of why people were mistaken if they thought COVID-19 was not a threat in WA.

"You’ve got a foreign vessel coming in, a foreign aircraft coming in, and then Australians who are breaking the rules," he said.

"And they think that COVID is not going to get here. They’d be kidding themselves."

He said about four out of 10 West Australian were yet to be vaccinated.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand — For a year and a half, New Zealand has pursued a strategy of “Covid zero,” closing its borders and quickly enforcing lockdowns to keep the coronavirus in check, a policy it maintained even as other Asia-Pacific countries transitioned to coexisting with the viral threat.

On Monday, New Zealand gave in.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern acknowledged an end to the elimination strategy seven weeks into a lockdown that has failed to halt an outbreak of the Delta variant, announcing that restrictions would be gradually lifted in Auckland, the country’s largest city.

“We’re transitioning from our current strategy into a new way of doing things,” Ms. Ardern told reporters. “With Delta, the return to zero is incredibly difficult, and our restrictions alone are not enough to achieve that quickly. In fact, for this outbreak, it’s clear that long periods of heavy restrictions has not got us to zero cases.”

“What we have called a long tail,” she added, “feels more like a tentacle that has been incredibly hard to shake.”
On Monday, Ms. Ardern offered a three-stage map out of lockdown, in an effort to “make everyday life a little easier.”

Starting on Tuesday, residents of Auckland, for the first time since August, will be permitted to meet with members of other households outdoors. Younger children will return to classrooms, and there will be a more permissive approach to outdoor exercise at the city’s parks, nature reserves and beaches.
Thank you for facing the reality that nature eventually humbles us all. Please NZ get vaccinated to the highest level possible because you have a very fertile field to spread Delta.

The U.S. paid Merck US $700 per course, this explains clearly why they have been suppressing the much less expensive Invermectin/ doxycycline/ zinc treatment, which it seems has greater efficacy https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02081-w at 90% as opposed to 50%. At that price, it will probably not hurt the market for initial vaccinations.
From the linked article.
Adding to the difficulty are conspiracy theories holding that ivermectin has been proven to work and that drug companies are depriving the public of a cheap cure. Chaccour says he has been called ‘genocidal’ for doing research on the drug rather than just endorsing it.

“We want to lead Australia out of this pandemic,” New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet said on Sunday from — where else — a pub.

“It’s been 100 days of blood, sweat and no beers,” he added, moments after spraying suds on his face while ceremonially tapping the first keg of Australia’s post-covid-zero era.

Sydney’s reopening has been powered by a surge in vaccinations. When the outbreak began in June, Australia’s sluggish vaccination rollout went into hyper-drive. In just over three months, Australia’s immunization rate went from single digits to rivaling that of the United States.

Ivermectin hasn't been shown to be an effective treatment and it has not been approved by the FDA for that use. People are pooping out their intestinal lining...

FDA approved? What does that really mean?
It means they have followed the science and made a decision. There's nothing that precludes additional information from being discovered, making a previous decision invalid. When that happens, the FDA has removed a past approval.

Your country must have their own approval process. Not being perfect, mistakes will be made. All we can expect is that they'll be made using the best and most complete information available at the time.

If you're perfect, go ahead and throw stones. If you're not, STFU.

While not about drugs, you may want to research premarket approval process and decide for yourself how much science is involved and whether it harms or benefits

https://www.drugwatch.com/fda/510k-clearance/

There is no "bashing". Drugs and devices have been brought to market based on fraudulent and/or incomplete data. There are other devices that are withheld from the market available elsewhere for unknown reasons. It is a complicated issue.

I don't care to or have to do that. The FDA is full of people with medical backgrounds to do that for me. I understand that there's incompetence and corruption in all professions. I just choose to trust them (now).
