I think you are mistaken. This week, I received, via China post, 5 Arduino Nanos. Bought off of ebay. If there are restrictions, they aren't apparent.

It isn't exactly an "Arduino" item per se.....but that's how I was going to experiment with it.

I think you're misinterpreting that warning that you saw. It's an Export restriction, not an Import restriction. Nothing is stopping you from buying those things by the fistful. Once you have them in your possession, you cannot ship them back out to certain nations, that's all.

If it's simply saying that AFTER I buy it I cannot export it then that's fine.
Never had any intention to do that at all.

The warning has the wording.....
"Directing the seller to export without complying with the regulatory licensing and documentation requirements is a violation of United States law. "......

I took that as the seller on ebay in China.
It still sounds that way to me ???

The eBay seller you linked to in post #1 is in New York. Also, no reference to your export warning on that eBay listing.

My interpretation is that just as you can't buy it, have it shipped to you, and then ship it off to North Korea, you also can't buy it and have it shipped directly to North Korea. There are likely rules in place to prevent a mail-forwarding issue as well (e.g. Can't ship to Cuba? Mail it to Mexico, and have it forwarded to Cuba).
I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're a seller. The e-commerce app they have probably have these generic messages tied to all similar products -- I doubt they actually are acting on the advice of legal counsel regarding this product.

Ah, that perspective is probably correct and not what I was thinking.

 

Pretty sure I read somewhere, that there is an in-built altitude limit in those devices, which stops output of data if exceeded.
