Gum-Banning Singapore Now Has a Sticker Problem
Outside, scores of discarded badges ended up stuck to railings, walls, signs, traffic-light posts—practically any surface within arm’s reach, even plants. Some of the rules were eased recently, but the unwanted pandemic souvenirs remain.

Beyond the visual blight, the stickers leave behind a gummy, hard-to-clean residue. All this in a country that famously banned chewing gum three decades ago to keep public spaces spick-and-span.

It happens when fuming nitric acid is the oxidizer. Pythom uses it with furfuryl alcohol fuel.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33374901/
herein we exploit a classic liquid rocket bipropellant composed of furfuryl alcohol and fuming nitric acid to prepare carbon nanosheets by simply mixing the two reagents at ambient conditions. Furfuryl alcohol served as the carbon source while fuming nitric acid as a strong oxidizer. On ignition the temperature is raised high enough to induce carbonization in a sort of in-situ pyrolytic process.

Fuming nitric acid and furfuryl alcohol reacted energetically upon contact to form a crude carbon residue inside the “rocket” test tube. Collection and washing of the residue afforded a fine carbon powder. Notice the release of brown nitrogen oxide gases as a result of nitric acid decomposition by furfuryl alcohol.

Nitrogen Oxides are a family of poisonous, highly reactive gases. These gases form when fuel is burned at high temperatures. NOx pollution is emitted by automobiles, trucks and various non-road vehicles (e.g., construction equipment, boats, etc.) as well as industrial sources such as power plants, industrial boilers, cement kilns, and turbines. NOx often appears as a brownish gas.
Sweet, That makes it double stupid for the guys on the launch-site being so close they had to run o_O (up and down wind ).

They likely didn't have an EPA air permit for such a contraption - visible emissions are frowned upon. Even diesel engines now have urea injection to reduce the visible NOx emissions to N2. All the NOx can create ground level ozone in UV light and acid rain - very acidic acid rain.

Litigation involving a long-dead Des Moines bartender known for her ability to serve beer from her bosom has landed in federal court amid new allegations of violent threats against a state senator.

Two years ago, the estate of Ruthie Bisignano sued Des Moines’ Exile Brewing Co. for the alleged unpermitted use of her persona to advertise the establishment’s Ruthie beer and related products.

"I have seen men holding their guts with their own hands, crying out for their mothers," the AI told Rizzotto at one point. "I have seen piles of corpses going as high as two floors, as if I was living a never-ending nightmare. I have seen friends decapitated by artillery shells, their lives gone in an instant. For years this was my life, always surrounded by death, but never claimed by it."

Police play Disney tunes to prevent video of them on patrol being posted online, California lawmaker claims
The Santa Anna, CA police officer believed youtube would automatically delete any videos of his interaction with the public because he was blasting copyrighted Disney tunes into the background of any video from his patrol car's radio.

Woman rescued after falling in toilet trying to get phone
1650836710103.png

QUILCENE, Wash. (AP) — A woman who accidentally dropped her cellphone into the hole of an outhouse in a national forest and fell in while trying to retrieve it had to be rescued by firefighters in Washington state.

Brinnon Fire Department Chief Tim Manly said the woman, who was at the top of Mount Walker in the Olympic National Forest northwest of Seattle, had been using her phone when it fell into the toilet on Tuesday, The Kitsap Sun reported.

Manly said she disassembled the toilet seat and used dog leashes to try and get the phone and eventually used the leashes to tie herself off as she reached for it. That effort failed and she fell into the toilet headfirst.

Some California residents last week finally figured out the source of strange rumbling and snoring noises in their home — a mother bear and her four cubs had been hibernating beneath the South Lake Tahoe house.

The BEAR League, a Lake Tahoe bear rescue organization, said this particular mother black bear had three cubs of her own — and adopted one more — and thus "had four active, chubby little bears following her around" at the end of 2021 when the family began to search for a hibernation den.
