A couple of bags of concrete, 2x4s, and some plywood would've solved this problem immediately (or at least in a few hours).
Why's everyone assume the gov't will take care of it?
Appears to be a classic case of media hype -- especially the headline. They make it sound like this is some new, dangerous mutant species of ant that have been allowed to escape into the wild and will no threaten all life on earth. Don't be surprised if there isn't a horror movie based on this article in the next few years (and it wouldn't be the first -- https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1001104_ants).
But read the story and you discover it's not even close. Even the first 90% of the story is misleading, though. It strongly implies that this was a group of ants that were isolated years ago and have somehow managed to survive and multiply despite having no food source other than each other. Well campers, the laws of thermodynamics pretty much rule that one out. Finally, at the end, you discover (though still requiring some reading between the lines) that it is simply a matter of ants continually falling down the vent pipe and eating the only food available -- the bodies of ants that had previously fallen down the vent pipe. The ants that "escaped" did so were nothing more than ants that had recently fallen down the pipe and they were using a bridge that was specifically constructed to allow them to do so.
I remember watching a movie as a kid, back in the 70's, named Marabunta... it was terrifying
to say the least... until I grew up and looked back at it and thought "what a bunch of bull" On a side note, I can't find a link for that movie either in Rotten Tomatoes or the IMDB... I wader if it was so bad that it's been forgotten?
There you go... I'm sure it was "The Naked Jungle" with Charlton Heston... it's just that the names of movies are normally changed to fit the country they're being screened on.
Did you miss the part where it said a city truck did it?
well, gee you guys are a bunch of whimps. Having lived in West Africa I encountered army ants a couple times. Both to no great issue. Once while traveling in The Gambia I was sleeping in a spare bedroom. I woke up to observe a horde of ants starting to come in the window. I grabbed my bedding and moved to another room. No big deal.
Another time, in my house in Ghana hanging out on the porch, we teachers noticed the local chickens were getting quite excited and were wondering what was going on. Seems the chickens were attracted by the insects that were trying to escape the oncoming ant horde Those bugs were good eating but they needed to be careful too. I could just take a long step across the ant trail since I could see what was going on. It was fascinating how the trail of smaller worker ants was guarded by larger guys keeping everything organized.
The next morning my kitchen was completely clean. The ants had come in one window, spread out and eaten every crumb and then regrouped and exited the window on the opposite side.
I’m leaving out the part where the biology teacher, Susan Henry, had been walking between the houses and started screaming and jumping up and down. She had stepped into the trail and some of the little buggers had started climbing up her pants. We were watching with interest ( in the fading twilight) while she stripped off her pants, threw them to the side and took off running away toward her house.
Gotta take your entertainment where you can get it sometimes. And biology can be a useful skill too. I learned later that those ants will climb up always up between pant and leg so best to get rid of the pants. No serious damage except maybe to Susan’s self image. We teachers enjoyed the show.

It probably takes almost ten times as much time to board, disembark, and claim your luggage ...
Actual flight time from Savannah to Atlanta is ~10 minutes. They don't even bother to climb out to reach cruising altitude and have to slow down to fit into the traffic pattern. Basically just a hyperbolic hop with a low and slow approach into Hartsfield Airport. You spend more time making the connecting flight out of Atlanta than the air time from Savannah. Not to mention the time spent going through all the hoops just to board in Savannah.
