Personally, I think that the challenge is quite entertaining. The fella failed because he couldn't land on a refueling platform halfway through his trip due to high winds, and hit water instead.

Other than for sport and fun, maybe his invention could be used in very specific rescue missions.

 

He was on the news flying it armed with a rifle and dressed in camo in their Paris Bastille Day Parade and said then he was going to attempt the crossing but it required in air refueling. It only has ~15 minute fuel supply. The video surprised me with the speed it attains. Much faster than the old peroxide jet packs from back in the 60s.

 

That's just too noisy. We need modern maneuverable, inflatable, balloons.

Hubby thought it would be cool to have his sweetie take a photo. He climbed over the barriers to pose on the lava flow. Wifey aimed the camera. All of a sudden, poof he disappeared. He broke through the crust.
