And now for something weird...

I'll post this in Weird, only 'cause it never happened before.

A few minutes ago I was walking barefoot along the lake in my backyard.

I nearly stepped on a huge water moccasin. Scared the crap out of me.

Luckily, he wasn't hungry and popped off into the lake.

Now, I've got to worry about my dog...he spends lots of time in the back and likes to chase the wildlife.

Glad to hear nothing came of it... but let's say that it did... what would you have done? Are there immediate services available in your area for that kind of emergency?

They are indigenous to the Everglades -- which is the source of water for my lake. So, yes, they are common, and they are the most numerous of snake bites in South Florida.

I keep my cell phone in my pocket. I'd have called 911 immediately. Our local emergency services are well prepared for such an event.

While I'd likely survive, it's not an experience I desire.

I also find your survival desirable ... :p:D

Anyways, so, shaken from my near death experience with a big snake, I decided to pre-celebrate St. Patty's day with a few Guinness.

Feeling pretty good, I decided to head over to Amazon.com and do some shopping.

Then I came across this.

I know this is not a problem for me. I don't have a billion dollars.

I did buy this, though:

I'll return it on Sunday.

Hate em. I've seen a few dogs bit by one and it's pretty nasty because they swell-up like a balloon quickly and start shaking madly. Painful but usually not fatal (a rattlesnake bite is really bad). When I was a kid we would sometimes catch a water moccasin while fishing for catfish on the Brazos river in central Texas.

SANDY, OR (KPTV) -

A brazen theft was caught on camera at a Sandy car dealership.

Jeff Baldwin, Suburban Chevrolet in Sandy general manager, said his staff started work as usual Thursday, until they realized something was missing.

“A customer from our Ford store came over here to look at the Camaro and they couldn’t find the Camaro,” Baldwin said.

A brand new, $62,000 red ZL1 Camaro was gone.
This is when you need the "Trunk Monkey" car option.

Is it Reason, Instinct, Intuition?
Maybe one day we will find out.
The video is out there.
Similar to the case of dolphin and also small whale that had sought out human aid in removing plastic bag and the other fishing line from its fins.
Max.

The moment a 25-ton humpback whale pushed a snorkeller to safety from a 15ft tiger shark was captured on camera.

Biologist Nan Hauser was swimming off the coast of Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands, when the giant creature swam-in to prevent a "potentially deadly" attack.

She said the encounter may be proof of a whale's intuitive nature to protect other species, including humans.

She believes this has never been captured on video before and could be the first ever documented case of a humpback whale guarding a human from a shark.

The giant whale tucked the 63-year-old, under its pectoral fin and pushed her along with his head and mouth for around 10 minutes, she said.

She later realised that the 15-foot tiger shark was nearby, that the whale was steering her away from.
She had initially thought it was another whale until she realised it was moving its tail from side to side rather than up and down, she said.

“I’ve spent the past 28 years protecting whales, and in the moment, I didn’t even realise that they were protecting me," she added.

Dogs have been doing the same thing with humans since the first wolf-dog was at the humans fire.

In recent scientific tests on the ability to reason by different species, Dogs fared among the worst with ability for this.
That I would categorize as instinct.
Birds were among those with the highest ability to use reason.
So much for 'Bird Brain'.:p

I would say those scientist don't understand dog reasoning.:D Now I will grant that a pig is 'human' smarter than a dog but I would trust a dogs reasoning ability to sense trouble in abstract conditions and alert other humans over a pigs.
