Yep. One summer vacation several of my wife's cousins had a summer job at a small factory on the outskirts of Bangkok. They were given sponges, sandpaper, razor blades and diluted sulfuric acid and were paid copy artificial signs of wear onto brand new Levi's jeans. I am still disturbed by memories of it, nearly twenty years later.

When my jeans wore out at the knees, Mom put Iron-On patches on em. Or we cut the legs off and made shorts! Don't think I ever had a pair of real shorts as a kid. I never did understand the store bought "Wore Out" look. It took me at least a couple of years of hard wear to get to that point. We wore them until the seat seam busted out or the pockets had BIG holes in em. All I had was jeans until I started work after college.
