And now for something weird...

I recall hearing very recently that IHOP what changing its name to IHOB (don't know about capitalization since it was a radio news story) and while they didn't give what the new abbreviation stood for I assumed it was International House of Breakfast.

This is the first I've heard that people are upset about it or that it failed -- I had the impression that it was a change that was coming up in the next couple of months.

Okay, now I see that it is just a marketing campaign to introduce (or draw attention to) their burger selections and appears to be only temporary in nature.

So what? People getting upset over this is just a sign of how little most people have to occupy their time these days.

The only thing that annoys me is that this marketing campaign masqueraded itself as a legitimate news story -- but given the quality and diligence of our "news" agencies, that is not surprising in the least.

There! ... now you won't forget this publicity stunt, idiotic as it is (and neither will I ) ... this proves that the campaign worked ... there's no such thing as bad publicity, as some marketers like to say...
By and large, sadly, they have it right -- and to be fair they do know that there ARE people that WILL remember it and will NOT patronize IHOP as a result (or at the very least move it well down on the list of places they will go). But, like casino operators, they make their money on the rest of humanity that aren't very distinguishable from lemmings.

That's just like the telemarketers that call you, despite being on the national and state no-call lists, and then lie to you by claiming that they are calling you because you responded to one of their promotions on the internet or some-such. The really DO expect that people are going to look aside at the fact that their express wishes not to be solicited to were ignored and then, on top of that, ignore the fact that company kicked off the potential relationship without outright deceit. But, they wouldn't do it if it didn't pay off enough to be profitable.
