It's okay. Kids today don't have any outdoor skills, anyway.

Any mother defending her young....
@WBahnAny mother defending her young....
I was walking between buildings on campus a number of years ago and saw this fox standing in the middle of a patch of lawn and a huge crow about five feet away from it. Both were just standing there looking at each other. I thought that was pretty weird, but as I watch I saw the fox move slightly to the side and the crow hop over to stay right in front of it. It didn't take long to realize that the crow was defending something -- I assumed a nest that I couldn't see in the brush a little bit behind them. I watched for several minutes, fascinated, until it seemed that the fox decided that he just wasn't that hungry and moseyed on his way.
I have seen it a few times with different birds that feed on carrion.Any mother defending her young....

I don't think so. The crow was very clearly moving to stay directly between the fox and a specific area of the bushes and made no effort to follow the fox as it left. Instead, it hopped over closer to the bushes and just stood there looking around.I have seen it a few times with different birds that feed on carrion.
I suspect it is watching the Fox as they know that he is likely to leave some 'delicacy' in the form of remains of the kill.
Maybe they were both wary of the human watching them?I don't think so.
