When we talk about residual magnetism we are discussing stored flux. The motor itself is the flux capacitor. No external reservoir of flux is necessary.

I have done that! Run an electric dragster off of a 9 volt battery. It won races, since it went a lot faster tha when it ran off of the 2 AA cells. It was a plastic model named "The Peeler", back in 1959.

 

I don't remember 1959. I DO remember 1960. Yes, a real actual memory. Was two years old. The notion of running a car on 9V was intended to be a passenger sedan, not a model.

I built a dragster once. Little under one foot long, about 4 inches wide. Wire frame and aluminum foil and foam for the body. Power was from a 12 volt source on a track. Used an 8-Track motor and direct drive. Thing was quick off the line and damned fast at the scale quarter mile mark. Never did reach its top speed. Couldn't find a track long enough.
