That's an excellent solution but to a problem that needn't exist in the first place -- By what stretch of logic does political discussion have a place on this site?
I have a strong desire to tell someone they are wrong and, at the same time, I hope they will call me an ass.

Seriously, the political talk greatly increases the activity of this forum - most political threads are 500 to 2000 posts before they die. That increased forum activity raises the search engine optimization scores for anyone searching a an electronics solutions (or a political opinion). The higher AAC moves on the Google search results, the more people come to AAC for answers, the more members, the more unique visitors, the more ad revenue, the spiral just goes up.

I can see the economic justification for suddenly allowing political discussions on this site. d

Enhanced SEO? Perhaps... But at the cost of greatly decreased 'signal to noise ratio':(

Actually, I was going to also suggest that the sub-forum be blocked from Google indexing. But, I suppose our penchant for agreement wasn't going to last long anyway.
I don't have a cut of the profits, so I wouldn't mind the Google firewall but I doubt our webmasters would let you near there server room.

I would like to think I have a a lot of friends here with a mutual interest of electronics. This has always been one of the most enjoyable forums in which I have participated. Almost everyone is helpful, patient and light hearted.

I participate in another forum that is of common interest but has a political sub forum. Let me tell you from experience, it changes people and not for the good. In addition, a number of forum members become obsessed with the politics and no longer want to participate in the common interest.

Please take my advice from my experience. You don't want to wander down that road. You don't want a sub forum or should even want to discuss politics or religion. If you want that sort of discussion then seek out a forum that specializes in that topic.

I for one do not, and will not participate in political discussions on this forum. I do not want that to ruin the relationship with the many friends I have here.

Just my 2 cents.

And what about those of us who have no friends?

The reason behind this burst of political threads I think has at least two seeds.

1. For the longest time all political threads on AAC were locked as soon as a moderator saw them. Which caused after years of suppression a thread born which the mods allowed for some time because there was no hitting under the belt. In simple terms. It didn't become a flamewar in mere seconds like most often happens...(It's not this one http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/t...meone-without-voting-for-someone-else.127958/ ) There was a thread before that about politics that got a decent lifespan.

2. The US election.

What does bother me though, at least a little, is the level of animosit
Two observations.

1. There are a lot of immature people who takes critism or less than 100 buy in of their ideas personally. Those are the same snowflakes that demand 100 obiendece from others.

2. They are also those who are unable to see how offensive their statements are to others and at the same time are overly sensitive.

The beauty of this site is that it has an ignorance ignore feature. I have maintained an extensive list of those that I deem unable to communicate with so I never get bothered by what they have to say.

Peace ever after. Except that from time to time I get private messages from those people demanding that I respond to their idiocy.
