AA 1.5V battery for use in the freezer?

I have a fridge alarm which uses 2 AA alkaline batteries. It has two remote units so thought I would put one in the freezer. It has been in there about 1 hour and is currently indicating -26C. Then I thought about how cold would affect the batteries. It seems alkaline should be OK to -18C which is the proper temperature for a freezer.

Is there a battery type I could use which could handle lower than -18C?

Thanks, I found Enrgiser Ultimate Lithium which claims down to -40C.
The standard alkaline ones in it are still working at the moment (now 2 hours).

They probably don't suddenly stop working at -18°C, likely it's just an increase in their internal resistance or a loss in capacity, neither of which would likely significantly affect a low-current application such as yours.

Well, it's all I've got at the moment. As long as they don't explode all will be well.

I have a thermometer from Thermoworks and the sensor wire is really too think. I'm planning a really flat cable entry, a system commonly used for LED strips for the thermister.
