I got a couple of 18650 cells that I plan on using for projects and am curious about operating characteristics. They're consumer devices so there are no datasheets. I know it can vary from mfg to mfg but what are commonly understood characteristics?
I'm mostly interested in under voltage cutoff and over current protection.
In this datasheet (page 8) there is a small circuit that is inserted in between the cell and terminals. Although on the bench I safely ran at 12A (4C!), the cells slugged down to 2.4V and continued running for ~15 seconds. Does anyone have an explanation for activity like this? I'm trying to decide if I need to worry about using undervoltage and overcurrent circuitry.
