i am trying to add a charger jack in my 12v system.

it may seem obvious what i should be doing but i just want to make sure i get it right and don't damage anything.

i have a 12v battery running two motors which are controlled by a rocker switch. (on/off)
the battery has a volt meter connected directly to monitor the health of the battery.

where should i connect the charging jack in this circuit ?

does it just connect direct to the battery terminal ?
do i have to do anything else to protect the circuit ?

i have attached a basic circuit drawing but with 9v battery as that's all th program had.

thanks in advance

Depending on type battery and charger in most cases the charger is connected across the battery. Battery + to Charger + and Battery - to charger -. In some cases you want to isolate the battery from the charger when the battery is under load. Your image reflects what looks to be a current meter on the high side of the battery? Looks to be in series. Anyway the correct type charger for the battery is wired across the battery terminals.

Sound about like I thought.

The charger would never be connected when the battery is under loads the motors would always be switched off. So if I just connect + to + and - to - from charger to battery this should work.

Is the volt meter connect properly for this circumstance? Would it tell you battery life left and also state of battery whilst changing ?
