Why don't we (UK) have yard sales?
It seems like a brilliant idea.

I have seen one or two Garden/Yard sales in the Portsmouth area, but mainly Car Boot selling.

Somewhere (Australia?) unwanted items can be left at the kerbside on certain days and anyone is free to help themselves. The local authority clears any left-overs. I wish the UK had that system.

They do it's called the Thames River.

 

If you don't have yard sales in the UK my guess might be your over regulated society.

But it could just be a cultural thing.

 

Because UK homes do not have yards, they have gardens.

 

I was talking to my neighbour and she said that her son held one. He put out a table with assorted things he didn't want any more with a 'help yourself' sign.
When he went to look later everything had gone including the table"

As long as you keep using all related to the maritime activity I will be able to deal easily with data.
Drafts, speed, stowage factors, etc make not much sense in metric to me.

 

The American method of measuring air conditioning in tons baffled me for quite a while! As if the British Thermal Unit isn’t confusing enough!

What I actually regret from that change, Eric, is the disappearance of something that sure you know very well: your nautical charts.

They were beautiful!! The metric ones lost their charm.

Failed to keep some for me when quitting ships.

 

They can become chemists now? Or was it secretly working for the Russians?

A lot of them gave up their life to Plumbers!
