Wiring raspberry pi with RGB led amplifier

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to wire an LED amplifier to my Raspberry Pi 4, following an example I found on Instructables here. However, I'm a bit unsure about the wiring process and want to ensure I avoid any shortcuts that could potentially damage my Raspberry Pi.

I've attached a schematic to this post for reference. Could someone please help me understand how to properly connect the LED amplifier to the Raspberry Pi?

Additionally, I have a question about the ground pin output. My LED strip has R, G, B, and a black wire. How should I correctly connect the ground from the Raspberry Pi to the LED amplifier considering this setup?

Thanks in advance for your help!

What in the world is an LED amplifier? Do you have a datasheet. Didn't check the instructable link. I don't generally waste my time looking at things there. My experience is that it's a bunch of people who're trying to come off as some sort of expert when, in reality, they don't actually know much about what they're talking about.

You have so few connections to the RPi, why didn't you just connect them with wires instead of using that almost-always-useless connect-by-name method? With those awful, and equally useless, colors?

From what I see in the instructable link there is no ground connection between the two.

I'm guessing instead of ground for a reference it's a matter of if the input matches or some amount of voltage lower than V+ or not.

Other than that the instructable is pretty clear on how to wire it up.

As dl324 stated a datasheet or a link to the amplifier would be helpful.

Thank you for reaching out.

Unfortunately, I couldn't locate a specific datasheet for the LED amplifier in question. However, I did manage to open the box and examine the components inside. Based on my observations, it appears that the amplifier is built around a M3004D MOSFET.

Thank you for your valuable assistance.
