I'm trying to complete this project but I'm not sure what I need to do so. I think I have an idea though. I'm trying to find two separate power sources to power the sound board and the amplifier. The setup is basically a 12V to 5V converter running to an Adafruit Audio FX Sound Board (2220) which feeds to a SSL 100W amplifier which will need to be connected to the speaker you see below.
Correct me if I'm wrong and please feel free to add input but I think all I'm missing are some quick splice terminals (T-taps).
My main questions are:
1) Do I cut off the 3.5mm plug from the speaker and connect it to speaker wires coming from the amplifier? If so, do I connect them to the black ones or the green ones, can I use wire nuts, and does it matter which end from the speaker goes to the + and - from the amp?
2) Where can I draw power from my truck that will turn this setup on when the car is switched to ON? I guess ACC will be fine, too. I don't want to use a cigarette adapter to power this setup. 2011 Toyota Tacoma. I'm thinking the clock and radio might be good candidates.
3) I want this setup to turn on only when I put my truck in reverse (obviously) so I'm thinking of actuating the soundboard by running wires that will be spliced into one of my reverse lights. Will this work? What gauge wire should I use for this part?
4) What are those plastic tubes called that protect electric wires from damage in the engine bay and underside of a car?
5) Do I need a breadboard (I think that's what it's called) for soldering? Do I even need to solder when using a breadboard?
I believe those are all the questions I have for now. I'll ask more as they come to mind. I was inspired to do this by watching YouTube videos of people using this setup for custom horns. I'm taking this and turning it into a backup alarm. All the parts you see in the pictures are from Amazon. I'll do my best to document this project and maybe make a YouTube video of it.
