Can I run the 8 gauge wire from the panel that is located in my garage to my hot tub? It is 100 amp panel in my garage. Someone told me that I have to run it from main meter ( that connects to the electricity to house) and add a GFCI connections before the wire is ran to the hot tub.

I was reading there is numerous codes on Hot tubs and spas.

You also need a manual disconnect within view of the H.T.
Check local codes, Home Depot have the general requirements on their site.

In the USA the NEC requires the there be a disconnect for the hot tub within visual sight and at least 5 feet away from the tub. This disconnect can also contain the GFCI breakers. The big box home improvement stores carry such equipment. Depending on the power requirements of your hot tub, 8 gauge wire may be too small. Check the manual. The source should be from your main circuit breaker panel, not from the power meter.

Does the National Electric Code and your local codes, allow you to add another Dual Breaker to your existing 100 amp subpanel in the garage?
You need to do some reading & some math to find out.

Do you live in an area that requires an Electrical Permit to be issued, before you can do any wiring?
How did you determine that 8 AWG wire was large enough?
You should draw and post your wiring diagram...
