What are you going to use to boost the signal in the other direction. WiFi is two way communication after all.

 

define "long range"?
Heck just state all your requirements now so we don't have to keep asking..
Does this need to mount to a utility pole or sit on a desk inside?

I don't think that will work the way you think it will. But knock yourself out, doing the experiment.

 

Sounds like he simply needs a wifi "extender" (or repeater) to be mounted half way (or whatever distance necessary) between the WIFI router and the users computer..
Available at any electronics store/walmart,etc...
