Why is ground connected to pnp transistor?

In a common-emitter connection the emitter is tied to AC common, the base is the input, and the collector is the output. For a PNP the base and collector voltages must be more negative than the emitter.

If you only have a plus supply then you can use the PNP as a high-side switch by connecting the emitter to V+ and connecting the base (through a resistor) to ground to turn the transistor on.

You show a BOX, not a transistor.
A transistor has a base, emitter and collector but your box has none of them.
You also do not show the circuit the transistor is used in.
